HenricoTheeCreator, also known as, @wearenotniggas_ on Instagram may use his Instagram page like everyone else, just a place to post pictures, but in reality he has created an archive of his work. He was always creating, even before he labeled himself as HenricoTheeCreator. However, Henrico took a hiatus from Instagram, so his profile only dates back to June 2014.
Not only is his work creative, it gives you a peek into his perspective of the nation, government, and society. His Instagram is filled with original photography, writing, and art. Henrico’s pieces may not be for everyone, but if you keep an open mind, you may find something you like.
Out of all his work, my favorite has to be his remixes with the U.S. dollar bill (like above). They can be interpreted in many different ways. One bill has George Washington transformed into a clown, with balloons. Another, has George Washington’s face covered with an image of Beyonce.
Each remixed bill lays on a black and white tiled surface. Although, the utensil used to construct these bills is unknown, some seem to be done in pen or oil pastel. The one thing Henrico could improve is his use of tags. The use of more tags would make his work more accessible.
According to Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code, “Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.”
I doubt Henrico has intent to circulate these bills, (it would be cool if he did), so facing time in prison is unlikely. He is simply using his artistic license.
All of Henrico’s original pieces can be found at the tag #HenricoTheeCreator on Instagram, and Google.
